August 23rd
Day 65

North Sydney

North Shore Natural Foods

Storm delayed ferry to Argentia for eight hours...3:00 PM sail - 6:00 AM arrival.

We have made it to North Sydney, Cape Breton. The four days from Halifax was stressfully fatiguing with strong winds and frequent hills, but the weather and scenery was beautiful. The cyclists arrived with sore knees and tired minds, but eagerly awaited the final days of this incredible journey - four days ahead of our previous schedule.

Soon after SPOKE's arrival yesterday into North Sydney our networking man, Gerard Daechsel (a former journalist and long-time COG member), informed the local media of our presence. A reporter from the Cape Breton Post entered the North Side Natural Foods health food store - where we received cereal, soy milk and more organic goodies - and covered our story. The journalist submitted the article - with a big picture of team SPOKE and the ferry in the background - to today's Cape Breton Post. It was rewarding to see our message so quickly distributed into the local community. We'll show you the article when we return home.

During the 14 hour ferry ride to Argentia, Newfoundland, the team had time for remembrance and rest before the final, hilly 130 km ride into St. John's - August 24.

We will be thinking of all the farmers, retailers, friends, and family who've supported us on the mainland. But special thanks and warm wishes go out to the two cyclists who provided great energy, love and happiness during the incredible times we shared.

Audrey & Leslie :
We're thinking of you.
