Rescue, Recovery, Redesign, & Secure hosting
The Peterborough Children's Water Festival is an annual community event run by Peterborough Green-Up to provide students with opportunities to discover the importance and diversity of water.
The cyclical nature of the event meant that the website received a lot of lead-up activity but was then forgotten for most of the year. This pattern repeated for a couple years. The previous design company was no longer retained and the program didn't budget for maintenance and security of the site. Their version of WordPress and some bloat heavy plugins (Revolution Slider) were left vulnerable and out of date.
Late 2017, it got hacked.
Content promoting inappropriate pharmacy products was plastered all throughout the site. Google even slapped a malware warning on the SERPs. It was not a good situation.
I was called in to help with the clean up, recovery, and redesign.
I migrated the site to more secure managed WordPress web servers, took advantage of newer design & publishing tools, improved the site design and the client's workflow, and resubmitted the sitemap to Google search engines for proof of security.
