It’s official. I’m a trained SEO expert.
Well, technically I passed the Yoast SEO for WordPress course by the Yoast Academy. (dandy certificate, eh?)
That was last year. I am just now getting around to sharing the news: I know how to use their tool. (Did I tell you that I’m a dad with a young family? Oy! It’s tricky keeping up one’s blog as a parent.)
But am I truly an SEO expert?
Learning the topic of SEO (like most fields in Web development) is a never-ending challenge; the bleeding edge of technology is a moving target that evolves rapidly. No one knows everything about Google’s search algorithms; however, the team at Yoast does a pretty good job at keeping up. They build some of the industry’s best search engine optimization tools. These tools help to transform the metadata on a web page and provide a structural framework to optimize your page content.
As a web developer, it’s my job to keep up with the tools that help drive traffic to your website. While I don’t call myself a Copywriter, I do make a point of studying how to best configure industry tools like the Yoast SEO for WordPress plugin to provide value to my clients and collaborators. Anyone can go ahead and download and install Yoast’s SEO plugin on their self-hosted WordPress site. But that is never enough. Understanding how to use it properly to optimize your website takes background knowledge and training.
If you find yourself wanting to learn more about SEO and how to implement solid tools on your site, I can help. If you’re looking to implement a full SEO strategy, I can play a role, but you’ll want to hire a copywriter too. I know a good one if you need a referal.
